Much like the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Game, the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl is a showcase for up-and-coming NFL talent trying to impress scouts in attendance. In a bit of irony, the game is often the least important part of the process —the real emphasis is on the week of practice beforehand, when young players will be working with NFL coaches and schemes for the first time.

This year’s teams are led by Mike Martz and Darrell Green, with Martz coaching the National team. Green is making his head-coaching debut here when he leads the American team.

The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl is known for unearthing hidden gems and underrated talents. Last year’s game featured running back Tarik Cohen, who got a chance to show off his game-breaking talents. Cohen got drafted in the fourth round by the Chicago Bears and scored four touchdowns while providing a number of dazzling highlights.

Another prominent player was cornerback Shaquill Griffin, who won a starting job after the Seattle Seahawks took him in the third round. Those are just two examples of why it’s worth paying attention to this game — you never know where your team’s next big contributor is coming from.

This year’s most notable names include quarterback Kenny Hill, who led TCU to an 11-3 record and an Alamo Bowl victory. Running back Lavon Coleman is another name to watch after he played a critical role in Washington’s offense the past two years. The entire roster can be found here.
